7 Sober Female Celebrities

Uncategorized Jan 26, 2023

More and more celebrities are speaking out about their addiction and how much better life is without drinking. Knowing what it’s like to be addicted and how hard it is to quit, speaking about their battles with substance abuse and addiction helps make it easier for others to seek help.

These seven inspiring female celebrities live amazing and successful lives after ditching alcohol. I respect the courage and tenacity it must take to “say no” in a celebrity town. Instead, these brave women serve as role models for other women.

Eva Mendes entered rehab in 2008 and has been sober since. She is private about her life yet is outspoken about her recovery. Eva, 48, spoke about her personal experience in rehab with Interview magazine, explaining, “I’m proud of people who have the determination and the fearlessness to actually go and face their demons and get better. This is a life or death situation.” Eva has two children with her long-term partner, Ryan Gosling.

Drew Barrymore gained a reputation as a “wild child” when she was still a child. Drew entered her first rehab at the shocking age of 12 and continued to struggle for several years. Drew, 47, has been sober for over three years. She says, "One of the bravest things you can do is slay those dragons and finally change an awful cycle in which you've found yourself stuck," she continued. "For me, it was to stop drinking."

Jamie Lee Curtis speaks openly about her recovery and her former addiction to painkillers, which she became dependent on after getting minor plastic surgery in 1989. Curtis has been sober for more than 23 years. She says that the best thing she can do for her legacy is to remain sober.

Kristin Davis, the actor best known for playing Charlotte on Sex in the City, has been sober for over 30 years—before she starred on the show. In fact, she credits acting for her continuous sobriety. Davis started drinking at a young age and says that the disease runs in her family.

Jessica Simpson reveals why she got sober. “Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction, and quite honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward.” The star got sober in November 2017 and hasn’t had a drink since.

Elizabeth Taylor is a legendary star who battled an addiction to drugs and alcohol for much of her career. An intervention in 1980 helped her with her recovery. She died in 2011, at the age of 79 from congestive heart failure.

Kirsten Dunst has been open about her past struggles with taking ecstasy, alcohol, and weed on a regular basis. While clean and sober today, back in 2008, when Kirsten Dunst broke up with her boyfriend at the time, the actress went into a downward spiral, which led her to drug abuse.

I hope these women are a source of inspiration for you. They certainly are for me. I have a great deal of respect for their commitment to remaining sober in the spotlight and pressures of Hollywood!
